Yeah, how come they are on that page? Surely they shouldn't be. I believe there are more though I cannot remember them at the moment.

Though Java Portable may be the only official PAF Live application so far there are others on the development tests page, meaning they are on their way to becoming official in time when thoroughly tested.

This means freeware applications can be developed and if found worthy can be release officially. This is mostly open source but not completely therefore legally it is freeware. Haller himself we now can have official freeware portables. Note that you will have to edit the m3u playlist so that it has relative paths. I recommend exporting playlists to m3u format and importing it whenever the drive letter changes. The playlists by default can't handle relative paths, that's right, try to use susbt for example to provide a constant drive letter to your music library. Anyways, a pretty nice player, I'm using it for years from a TrueCrypt volume I always mount to the same drive letter. I'm afraid that foo2k can't be added "officially" to the package due to it's closed source nature. I'm not sure where these are located but I would think should be able to be handled by the portable launcher. EDIT: Mir has noted that foobar also writes preferences to the registry. Until the developers work on improving performance Foobar would be a good lightweight alternative. Unfortunately Songbird is unusable on older machines due to its high resource usage. I am an advocate for Songbird and am listening to it as I type now. A PAF Live installer that included drive letter switching would complete the author's efforts for a portable version.

With 7zip, there already is a "no install" version you can download from them, which can be used as a portable app. Oh yea, I totally forgot about the "Enable per-user settings" check box. So you can start foobar by running the exe-file. Hmm, isn't foobar portable? I checked registry and don't found any entry. Thanks to everyone again.Platform Please donate. EDIT : Would it be acceptable if the launcher checked the user account and then the drive was configurable in advance with the INI like this Just to say that the INI configuration options above work a treat. It's unavailable on many PCs due to rights and will have issues on others due to the drive letter already being in use. Ah, right, I didn't realize you could do it per folder. With the "nsExec" plugin or with the simple exec commandit's quite easy to built in such support into the launcher using the. The syntax is the following: subst m The command above will mount the directory to the drive letter m. You can use the built-in subst command to mount a specific directory into a drive letter supports relative paths as well. Interestingly, it seems there are rumours that relative path support is coming in the next major release so perhaps it would be better to wait and see what happens. Thanks for the info though, all good stuff! Surely there would be issues with other apps running off the same drive at the same time if I'm understanding correctly. As far as I can see, there are a couple of vb scripts that are being used to automate changing the drive letter to the one that foobar expects to see and then back again on the way out.Īll very clever but I'm not sure that it would be wise to try and incorporate anything like that into the launcher. I just had a quick look over on the forums. Unfortunately it goes a bit over my head so I can't really tell which would cater for a portable app but should be worth a look. Theres a few scripts floating around the foobar forums that change the drive letter for the user. Working on XP SP3 here.Ī note with regards to the drive letter changes.
